Want the intel on Seattle's buzziest local spots?

We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to discover which local businesses have been getting a notable increase in attention this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Seattle businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increased their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

Read on to see which spots are worth exploring, right now.

Café Hagen

Open since December 2019, this Scandinavian spot, which offers coffee, tea and more, is trending compared to other businesses categorized as "Coffee & Tea" on Yelp.

Citywide, coffee and tea spots saw a median 2% increase in new reviews over the past month. Café Hagen only recently appeared on Yelp, but while many new businesses struggle to gain reviews, it has seen strong initial popularity.

It's not the only trending outlier in the coffee and tea category: Good Neighbor Cafe has seen a 57.1% increase in reviews, and Ding Tea and Indi Chocolate have seen 4.6 and 3.7% increases, respectively.

Located at 1252 Thomas St. (between North Pontius and North Yale avenues) in the Cascade, Café Hagen offers Scandanavian-inspiredspecialty coffee, housemade pastries and hand-picked wine and beer.

Whether or not you've been hearing buzz about Ballard's Schmaltzy’s Delicatessen, the deli and breakfast and brunch spot, which offers sandwiches and more, is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.

While businesses categorized as "Breakfast & Brunch" on Yelp saw a median 1.1% increase in new reviews over the past month, Schmaltzy’s Delicatessen bagged a 32.3% increase in new reviews within that time frame, with a slight downward trend from a 4.5-star rating a month ago to its current four stars.

There's more that's trending on Seattle's breakfast and brunch scene: Pacific Room Alki has seen a 23.1% increase in reviews, and Mioposto and Market Fresh RS have seen 1.8 and 10.2% increases, respectively.

Open at 928 N.W. Leary Way, Suite 102 (between 48th Street and North Ninth Avenue) since November 2019, Schmaltzy’s Delicatessen offers matzo ball soup, smoked trout salad, latke press sandwiches, pastrami sandwiches and more.
