The Milpitas Police Department (MPD) and detectives from the California Highway Patrol Organized Retail Crime Task Force (ORCTF) have managed an impressive crackdown on shoplifting and grand theft in a recent cooperative operation at the Great Mall in Milpitas, securing eleven arrests and recovering stolen merchandise valued at over $3,200, according to a MPD Facebook post on June 17.
Following the success of the operation, MPD further emphasized its commitment to working alongside partner agencies and local retailers to proactively address retail theft issues in the region. This collaborative and hands-on approach to loss prevention and crime reduction seems to be offering a shining example of what can be achieved when agencies work together.
The sting operation was carried out by detectives from MPD's Criminal Investigations Bureau who teamed up with ORCTF detectives, a specialized force dedicated to combating organized retail crime in California. Various retailers from the Great Mall were also engaged in the joint effort to identify key suspects and mitigate potential losses.
Their efforts paid off, as eleven suspects were arrested for a variety of charges, including shoplifting, grand theft, and outstanding felony warrants. The authorities also managed to recover 125 stolen items, ensuring that the perpetrators were held accountable for their actions and that justice prevailed for the local businesses affected.
