Bay Area Braces for Sizzling Summer Heat Wave: San Jose Set to ScorchMateo Giraud on Unsplash

As summer finally embraces the Bay Area in full swing, the region, especially San Jose, can expect sweltering temperatures in the upcoming days, marking the first heat wave of 2023. This heat blast follows a lagging Bay Area climate with an unusually cool spring. So, grab your sunblock and beach towels, because the summer weather pattern is now kicking in and it's going to be hot.

According to a Mercury News report, the upper atmosphere low-trough pattern that had persisted for some time is finally being replaced by high pressure, which will bring about the region's first heat wave. The high-pressure ridge responsible for these rising temperatures is expected to build through the weekend, with San Jose and most of the East Bay likely to experience lower 90s on Friday.

As the hot weekend kicks off, some of the warmer areas might even witness triple-digit temperatures. In anticipation of the heat, a Heat Advisory will be in effect from Friday to Sunday for inland portions of the Bay Area and Central Coast. ABC7 News meteorologist Drew Tuma believes Saturday will be the warmest day, with South Bay, Inland East Bay, and North Bay cities potentially reaching their hottest temperatures of 2023.

While coastal regions of San Francisco and the Peninsula will remain temperate, with temperatures hovering around the 60s and 70s2, San Jose is projected to sizzle and may even record one of the highest temperatures of the year so far. Considering the relatively cool temperatures experienced up to this point, it's important for residents to take precautions and stay safe as the heat may hit harder on the body.

In addition to personal health concerns, the scorching heat wave raises concerns about heightened fire danger, particularly as we approach the Fourth of July holiday.

Looking ahead, the high-pressure ridge is slated to break down early next week, starting on Sunday, which will cool the temperatures back down.
