Father Loses Life Saving His Son from Riptide at Santa Cruz BeachGoFundMe

A family outing turned tragic when Srinivasa Murthy Jonnalagadda, an Indian-American father of two, lost his life attempting to rescue his son from a riptide at California’s Panther State Beach, as was released on a GoFundMe page. The family had taken a casual trip to the beach, where Jonnalagadda's son, a 12-year-old, suddenly found himself in distress and unable to get out of the water as KTVU mentioned.

Despite not knowing how to swim, Jonnalagadda entered the water to help his struggling son, aided by another individual. The heroic father was able to successfully save his son with the help of the good Samaritan. However, he was tragically caught by the riptide and dragged into deeper waters, where he drowned as his family watched helplessly from the shore.

Authorities quickly responded to the scene, and Jonnalagadda was airlifted to Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, according to the GoFundMe fundraiser page. Unfortunately, their efforts proved futile as he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A man dedicated to his family, Jonnalagadda's life revolved around his wife and their two young children, aged 9 and 13. Described as a man of action, he was always willing to help others and had a highly positive outlook on life. He and his wife were actively involved in community service, impacting many lives through their support and kindness.

A GoFundMe campaign was established by friends and the community to assist the family in covering immediate expenses such as funeral costs, medical bills, and other unforeseen financial obligations. The campaign organizers have expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support and donations received thus far.
