The San José Police Department (SJPD) announced the arrest of two suspects for attempted homicide and conspiracy to commit attempted homicide, in a chilling case that involved the use of a ghost gun.
According to the SJPD press release, 33-year-old Anthony Watson of San José and 29-year-old Richard McCord, also of San José, were arrested in connection with a shooting that took place on January 18, 2023 in the 30 block of West Reed Street. During the investigation, Watson was identified as the primary suspect who entered the residence and shot the victim at least once, causing non life-threatening injuries. McCord was found to be involved and had conspired with Watson prior to the incident.
As the investigation progressed, SJPD Assaults investigators obtained arrest and search warrants for both suspects and their respective residences. While searching their homes, detectives seized ammunition and a privately made firearm (PMF) or ghost gun. Ghost guns are unregistered, untraceable guns that can be assembled from kits or 3D-printed parts, posing a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies.
On June 20, 2023, both suspects were apprehended and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted homicide and conspiracy to commit attempted homicide.
As the investigation into the San José attempted homicide case continues, law enforcement officials are appealing to the public for more information. Anyone with details about this incident or similar cases is asked to contact Detective Lindenberg #4673 or Detective Gaarde #4560 at the San José Police Assaults Unit via email, or by calling 408-277-4161.
