In an incident that unfolded Sunday night, a San Jose man, aged 25, allegedly intruded into a deputy's home in Plumas County, California, and pulled a semi-automatic pistol on the shocked officer. The confrontation occurred in the seemingly benign confines of the deputy's bathroom, transforming the private space into a chilling crime scene within seconds, as reported by the Modesto Bee.
According to the initial report on the event, the deputy, who remains unnamed and was off duty at the time, returned to his home in the Quincy area around 9:30 p.m.
Upon entering the bathroom and turning on the light, he was confronted by the aforementioned San Jose man with a semi-automatic pistol, held squarely in his direction. The suspect proceeded to pull the trigger, however, due to there not being a chambered round, no shot was fired.
Despite the looming danger, the off-duty deputy braved it successfully. Using defensive tactics, he subdued the suspect and managed to safely secure the firearm away from the suspect.
The San Jose resident now stands booked into the Plumas County Correctional Facility on charges of attempted homicide and burglary. His bail, correspondingly steep, is set at $500,000.
