VIDEO: Bizarre Device Used in Terrifying San Jose Hotel Break-in AttemptSource: Reddit / @dlj2626

In a terrifying incident at a San Jose hotel, a woman visiting for business captured a chilling break-in attempt on video, as intruders used a bizarre device to try and open her hotel room door from the outside according to NBC Bay Area. The incident took place at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites San Jose Airport.

The device used by the suspect appeared similar to a wire hanger, often employed to unlock car doors or raise windows, and the woman, Debra, was stunned to see it coming from under her door, seeking to reach for the door handle. In an unexpected turn of events, Debra says she had seen the same couple trying to gain access to her room through her peephole earlier in the day, which she ignored, and that the duo managed to escape before police arrived.

The San Jose Police Department received a call around 9:36 p.m. about a "disturbance" at a Holiday Inn from hotel management, who reported two "suspicious" people on the property as KRON4 confirmed. Despite calling in a timely manner, the suspects managed to leave the area before officers arrived on the scene. KRON4 reached out to the management of the Holiday Inn for comment, but is still awaiting a response.

Debra shared her advice for others in similar situations, stating "really, don't panic ... I mean I stopped their attempt with just a couple of fingers, right? So don't panic. Stay calm and reach out for help." She also highlighted the importance of contacting the police through the hotel in such cases, as it alerts other local hotels and police agencies about the would-be burglars. Debra laughingly mentioned that moving forward, she might consider staying in more Airbnbs but hoped that putting up lights, making noise, and using the 'do not disturb' sign on her hotel room door could help prevent future incidents.
