The Gilroy Police Department arrested Mauricio Medina-Vera, a 38-year-old resident of Gilroy, California, after he allegedly carried out a series of assault and vandalism incidents at the Gilroy Premium Outlets according to KRON4 News. Medina-Vera is accused of using concrete blocks and a metal chair to break windows at business establishments before escalating the violence by punching a car's windshield while a woman was seated inside.
Multiple 911 calls from concerned citizens alerted police to the situation. Upon arriving at the scene, officers attempted to calmly apprehend Medina-Vera in a parking lot, but he showed no signs of cooperation as reported by The Mercury News. To ensure public safety, officers were forced to use a Taser on the suspect who was eventually taken into custody. Medina-Vera received medical treatment before being transported to the Santa Clara County Jail to face charges related to assault and vandalism.
The incident took place at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to KSBW News. The Gilroy Police Department continues to investigate the assault and vandalism complaints.
