The preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the driver, a 55-year-old male Cupertino resident, was behind the wheel of a Toyota pick-up truck, traveling westbound on Homestead Road toward Maryann Drive in the right lane of traffic. The pedestrian, an 85-year-old male from Santa Clara, was walking in the crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with SCPD investigators. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision.

SCPD Traffic and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on the scene and documented the tragic event. The victim's identity has been withheld by the authorities until the Santa Clara County – Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner can provide proper notification.
