Tragic Collision Claims Life of 85 Year Old Pedestrian in Santa Clara

An 85-year-old Santa Clara resident lost his life in a fatal traffic collision on July 28, 2023, following an unfortunate incident where a pick-up truck collided with him at the intersection of Homestead Road and Maryann Drive, according to a press release from the Santa Clara Police Department.

At approximately 8:48 p.m., a witness called Santa Clara public safety dispatchers to report the frightening collision involving a vehicle and the elderly pedestrian. Santa Clara fire and police personnel rushed to the scene and performed CPR on the victim, but despite their valiant efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident.

The preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the driver, a 55-year-old male Cupertino resident, was behind the wheel of a Toyota pick-up truck, traveling westbound on Homestead Road toward Maryann Drive in the right lane of traffic. The pedestrian, an 85-year-old male from Santa Clara, was walking in the crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with SCPD investigators. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision.

SCPD Traffic and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on the scene and documented the tragic event. The victim's identity has been withheld by the authorities until the Santa Clara County – Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner can provide proper notification.
