Early this morning, a FedEx driver traveling on southbound Interstate 15 near Scripps Ranch made a life-saving decision when he witnessed a car crash and burst into flames right before his eyes. The driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, immediately stopped his truck and jumped into action, pulling a man from the burning Toyota Camry moments before it was engulfed in a series of explosions, according to ABC 10News.
The cause of the crash, which took place near state Route 52 just before 3 a.m., is still under investigation. The car's driver reportedly slammed into a guardrail, causing the vehicle to explode and catch fire, as reported by Times of San Diego. The impact of the crash left the driver with what appeared to be serious leg injuries, and he was rushed to the hospital immediately.
CHP Officer Mark Latulippe confirmed to Fox 5 San Diego that the heroic FedEx driver pulled the injured man out of the car, saving his life in the process. Another motorist who had pulled over on the scene also contributed by attempting to control the fire with a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived.
It's worth noting that despite the devastating accident, the driver of the burning car was conscious throughout the entire ordeal. Although the extent of his injuries is yet to be determined, it's clear he is lucky to be alive, and his survival is largely attributable to the quick actions by the brave FedEx driver and others who helped.
In a statement to ABC 10News, the FedEx driver had this to say about his actions: “As soon as I saw the car, it was still actively on fire. You gotta stop to see if you can do anything at all." CHP has added that drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in this accident.
