Reports of a string of seven robberies within a few weeks at the Redwood City Costco have been making the rounds on social media. However, according to an official statement from the Redwood City Police Department, these allegations are unsubstantiated. The statement clarified that no robberies have been reported at the location during the specified timeframe. However, two separate incidents of theft in the Costco parking lot have been brought to light, for which police investigations are ongoing.
In the first instance on August 11th, a victim was approached by an unidentified Hispanic Female adult, who offered her a fake gold necklace. To the victim's horror, she discovered upon returning home that her real gold necklace had been stolen during the encounter. The second case took place not too long after, on August 17th, when another unsuspecting victim met an unidentified Middle Eastern Female adult in the parking lot. This time, the female suspect kissed the victim on the cheek, only for him to find later that his necklace had vanished as well.
Both cases remain unresolved, and the Redwood City Police Department is actively pursuing leads. Meanwhile, they are urging the public, particularly the elderly, to be cautious and mindful of their belongings when being approached by strangers. The statement, by Redwood City PD, sheds light on a common criminal scam wherein suspects target vulnerable victims and offer them free jewelry, all the while stealthily stealing their genuine jewelry.
