
On Tuesday, a suspect was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting in Spring Valley that took place on July 4, where one man was killed, and another was wounded. According to San Diego Sheriff Lt. Joseph Jarjura, the suspect has been identified as Trevion G'shon Austin, a 20-year-old documented Eastside Piru gang member who is currently on juvenile probation for stabbing a victim.
The incident transpired on July 4 around 10 p.m. in the 2700 block of Central Avenue when the victims, Fernando Kevin Villegas and Kaulana "Dustin" Hernandez Liu, arrived at a friend's party. Upon arrival, the duo was shot by one of the members of a group that was present at the location. Austin is now facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
Authorities discovered Villegas, 25, lying in the street with several gunshot wounds to his upper torso and pronounced him dead at the scene, whereas Liu, 22, later arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm, recovering after treatment.
Despite the arrest and ongoing investigation, authorities have yet to ascertain the motivation behind the shooting event as well as the relationship between the victims and the alleged shooter. San Diego County Sheriff's Homicide Lt. Joseph Jarjura stated, "At this stage of the investigation, the nature of the relationship between the victims and any potential suspect(s) is unclear."
