Yesterday evening, the Milpitas Police Department (MPD) officers responded to two separate incidents occurring within minutes of each other, ultimately leading to the arrest of dangerous suspects. Both individuals were stopped before they could continue their criminal activities in the neighborhood.

The first incident occured around 7:13 PM when officers were alerted to an attempted carjacking at a gas station on the 1500 block of California Circle. According to the MPD’s Facebook post, a big rig driver was struggling with the suspect as the latter tried to steal the vehicle. The suspect, however, abandoned the scene and hid in a nearby pond.

With the timely assistance of the SWAT team, who happened to be training in the vicinity, officers deployed a drone to locate the suspect’s hiding spot. Eventually, the suspect was captured and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted carjacking and resisting arrest.

In the midst of handling the first complex situation, at 7:22 PM, merely minutes later, the dispatcher center received a distress call concerning a fight inside a fast-food restaurant on the 1700 block of Landess Avenue. As described in the MPD's Facebook post, the suspect assaulted multiple individuals before making a desperate and criminal attempt to escape. He first tried to carjack a vehicle, then endeavoring to forcibly rob a juvenile’s bicycle.

A citizen stepped in and provided crucial information that led officers to the suspect, who had taken refuge at a nearby bus stop. Armed with a knife, the suspect posed a significant threat, but officers expertly maintained a safe distance and negotiated with him until he decided to surrender peacefully. Consequently, the suspect was booked for an assortment of charges including robbery, attempted carjacking, kidnapping, assault, and criminal threats.
