On August 8th, a seemingly unprovoked violent assault took place at Spinas Park in Redwood City, leaving a victim badly injured and the local community alarmed. According to a Redwood City Police Department news release, the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Jose Guadalupe Naranjo of Redwood City, allegedly threw the victim onto the hood of a vehicle, held him down by his throat, and punched him repeatedly in the face. The victim sustained head injuries and was treated at Kaiser Hospital.
The Redwood City Police Department arrested Naranjo on August 22, thanks to an off-duty officer who spotted him at a local coffee shop. Naranjo was subsequently booked into the San Mateo County Jail, facing felony charges for assault with a deadly weapon.
