According to a San Jose Police Department media advisory, patrol officers spotted a stolen Kia sedan turning into a residential neighborhood near Snell Avenue and Avenida Del Robles at around 8:28 AM. Failing, to maintain visual of the suspect, officers searched the surrounding area, eventually discovering the vehicle at the bottom of an embankment near the intersection of Velasco Drive and Avenida Arboles.
The male driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, had been driving at a high rate of speed when the Kia struck a chain-link fence and a wooden barrier along the road. Despite life-saving efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. This tragic accident marks the 32nd fatal collision and 33rd traffic death in San Jose for 2023 so far.
With the investigation ongoing, San Jose authorities are urging anyone with information on this most recent accident to contact Detective Bowen of the Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit. Additionally, the city has implemented measures such as the P3TIPS mobile app, the tip line at (408) 947-STOP, and an online resource at www.svcrimestoppers.org, which offers cash rewards for information leading to an arrest.
