In San Jose's Buena Vista neighborhood, a grandmother and her 6-year-old grandson were found dead during a welfare check yesterday. The incident took place at the Vista Apartments complex, where police discovered the bodies of the pair, a woman in her 70s and a 6-year-old boy, inside one of the units.

An earlier article from Hoodline reported that the circumstances surrounding the incident were unknown, new details have since emerged. Distraught family members have shared that the suspect involved in this grisly crime is probably the child's uncle and the nephew of the elderly woman. He seemingly struggled with drug addiction which might have played a role in his actions. One family member, Chinette Jenkins, lamented to KTVU that the man wasn't "right in the head," mentioning that due to his mental problem, he would act erratically when not under the influence.

The 6-year-old boy's tragic death has had a profound impact on neighbors, as he was known for his friendly demeanor and playful attitude. A neighbor, Jose Sanchez, told CBS News that the boy was well-known in the area, often running around and playing with other children.

The police however have yet to release significant details about the suspect or any possible motives.

However, in the face of growing public concern, the Vista Apartments has taken steps to ensure the safety of its residents. Following the police investigation, management has issued a statement expressing condolences and assuring cooperation with the authorities. Additionally, a 24-hour security service has been hired as a precautionary measure to lend support to residents who may be feeling unsafe.

San Jose Police Department has counted the two deaths as the 23rd and 24th homicides of the year and is expected to release more information about this horrifying crime in the coming days.
