A deadly two-vehicle crash in San Jose left one driver dead and another injured. The devastating accident occurred at the intersection of Berryessa Road and Sabal Drive, claiming the life of one driver and registering as the 30th traffic death of 2023 in San Jose.
The 5 p.m. incident prompted the authorities to transport both drivers to a local hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other remained in an unknown condition, San José Police Media Relations reported. The identity of the deceased driver will be released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office after confirmation and notification of their next of kin.
This tragic event marked the 29th fatal collision in the city, and the overall tally of traffic-related deaths now stands at 30. This comes as a notable decrease in traffic fatalities compared to this time last year, when San Jose police had already investigated 42 roadway deaths.
Due to the incident, westbound Berryessa Road was closed from Piedmont Road to Sabal Drive for the subsequent investigation, according to the San Jose Police Department. They urged the public to avoid the area while the investigation was conducted.
