In a daring boat rescue operation, the San Jose Fire Department (SJFD) managed to save the lives of six individuals – three adults and three children – at the Alviso Marina earlier this week. The heroic event was made possible due to the effective use of drone technology, which helped locate the stranded victims before they could be retrieved.

The life-saving rescue was executed by the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Force 34, who carried out the rescue amidst the challenging circumstances. SJFD confirmed the successful rescue, stating, "Last night, USAR Task Force 34 completed a boat rescue of six individuals. Three adults and three young children were located with a drone and rescued from the Alviso Marina."
Photographs provided by SJFD showed three different scenes from the rescue operation. One depicted a drone pad, similar to a helipad but at a smaller scale. The next showcased the USAR team aboard the rescue vessel. The last captured a moment when two of the young children could be seen wrapped in blankets next to a fire truck, while a firefighter was shown handing the baby to another rescuer near the ramp. It was a display of valor and dedication from all involved, as they worked tirelessly to bring the rescue operation to a successful close.
The utilization of drone technology in such a rescue mission demonstrates its effectiveness in times of emergency and crisis, providing an added layer of support to those working on the front lines. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
