San Diego police shot and injured a suspect in the University City area on August 11, after he and another individual allegedly attempted to break into a car at an apartment complex. NBC San Diego reports that SDPD Lt. Adam Sharki said officers received a call at around 3 a.m. detailing a car break-in in progress on the 3400 block of Lebon Drive, and upon arriving at the scene, the suspects attempted to flee on foot, with one of them opening fire on the police officers.

The officers responded by returning fire, wounding one suspect who was subsequently taken to the hospital; the extent of his injuries remains undisclosed. However, the search for the second suspect—a man in his 20s, around 6 feet tall with a medium build, last seen wearing a blue mask and a grey hoodie—is still ongoing, according to ABC 10 News.

Fortunately, no police officers were injured in the altercation. Witnesses reported seeing two men attempting to break into vehicles at the Allina La Jolla apartment complex , ABC 10 News further detailed. When officers arrived, both suspects fled, one producing a firearm and shooting multiple times towards the officers , as stated by San Diego Sheriff’s Lt. Joseph Jarjura in the Times of San Diego.

As the search for the second suspect continues, residents in the area have been asked to stay alert and remain cautious. Local law enforcement is urging the public to stay out of the area as police hunt for the outstanding suspect, who is considered to be armed and dangerous , per ABC 10 News.

In accordance with countywide protocol for police shootings, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department is now investigating the shooting , as reported by NBC San Diego. In the meantime, local residents are advised to report any information on the whereabouts of the second suspect , ABC 10 News states.

As the investigation into the shooting and the search for the second suspect progress, the impact on the community's sense of security remains a concern. Both local residents and law enforcement agencies are hopeful for a swift resolution to the case, ensuring the safety and well-being of all those involved.
