VIDEO: Injured Mountain Biker Air-Lifted in San Mateo CountyCHP

A mountain biker was on August 15, 2023, saved from a remote San Pedro Mountain trail by a group of emergency responders that included the California Highway Patrol (CHP) H-30 after facing a challenging accident. The injured rider was located on a difficult-to-access trail, and the heroic efforts of the CHP and other responders were instrumental in ensuring his safety and timely medical treatment according to a Facebook video posted by CHP.

The rescue operation started at approximately 10:15 AM when San Mateo County Engine 44, Engine 72, UTV 44, American Medical Response Medic 53, and CHP H-30 responded to the scene. The Kensington-El Cerrito Fire Helicopter Rescue Technician (HRT) on board the CHP H-30 played a crucial role in the rescue as with GPS assistance provided by Public Safety Dispatch, they ascertained the location of the injured rider and swiftly moved into action.

The HRT member was lowered to the rider's location, where they placed him in a rescue device. The helicopter then hoisted the patient from the trail and transferred him to waiting firefighters and AMR personnel near Highway 1 as seen in the CHP video.

The patient was transported by AMR Medic 53, Code 3, to San Francisco General Hospital to receive medical attention for injuries sustained in the collision.
