
A 50-year-old tree trimmer lost his balance and fell from a six-foot ladder in Lakeside, El Cajon, impaling his left arm on a fence below him, per an account from ABC 10News. This dreadful incident took place in the early morning, near a mobile home park on Highway 8 Business in Unincorporated El Cajon.
Thankfully, the Lakeside Fire Protection District received the call and responded promptly, utilizing their specialized rescue training to extricate the injured man from his predicament. The technical complexity of removing the impaled fence without further injury made it essential to leave the impaled object in place and transport him to the hospital with a piece of the fence attached.
As reported by CBS 8, Lakeside Fire issued a reminder that removing impaled objects prematurely can lead to aggravation of the injury, and that it is crucial to have a surgical team safely remove such objects from a patient. Thanks to the swift actions of Lakeside Fire crews and the observance of proper emergency protocols, the tree trimmer was delivered to the hospital in stable condition.
