In the surrounding waters of San Pablo Bay near Alcatraz Island, a family is left in distress and fear as their loved one, George Ferguson, remains missing. The 67-year-old man, who suffers from cognitive medical issues and has limited boating experience, has not been in contact with his family since August 18, according to a Petaluma Police Department press release.
After purchasing a 30-foot Islander Sailboat named "Bianca," Ferguson began living on it, contacting his family members almost daily to update them on his whereabouts. However, these communications came to an abrupt halt on August 18th, when Ferguson reported to a family member that his boat had run aground near Alcatraz Island. The United States Coast Guard had to assist in freeing his boat, before he set off in the direction of Petaluma, California.
Since that fateful day near Alcatraz Island, no communication has been received from George Ferguson, leaving his family members concerned for his well-being. The Petaluma Police Department has urged the public to assist in searching for Ferguson and his sailboat, and to immediately report any sightings to them at 707-762-2727, citing case 23-3703.
The United States Coast Guard has not only confirmed their involvement in assisting Ferguson on August 18th but has also attempted to reach him via maritime radio on multiple occasions, without receiving any response. Additional searches of nearby harbors have been conducted, but they have yielded no signs of the missing sailor, according to the press release.
George Ferguson is described as a white male, 67 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with brown hair, and green eyes. Images of Ferguson and a boat similar to the “Bianca” have been made available by the Petaluma Police Department, to aid in identification and the ongoing search efforts.
