An Antioch young adult has been charged with reckless driving and felony hit and run following his involvement in a chaotic sideshow event that resulted in two injured individuals, according to a press release from the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office. Chase Allen Cancilla, 21, was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed during the early morning hours of August 6th after participating in a dangerous sideshow in Antioch, California.

The incident took place at Marina Plaza, with authorities receiving reports of the sideshow at approximately 2:50 am. Cancilla allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle and crashed into another car at West 9th and G streets, causing injuries to two people, one of whom sustained serious injuries. Cancilla then fled the crash scene on foot, but was ultimately apprehended by an officer and booked into the West County Detention Facility.

The charges against Cancilla include two felony counts of reckless driving on a highway that caused injuries, enhancements of inflicting great bodily harm to others, a felony hit and run charge resulting in the serious injury of another, and a misdemeanor for operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license. During his arraignment, Cancilla was held on a bail amount of $191,000.

Illegal sideshows pose a significant threat to public safety, drawing participants and spectators who engage in dangerous stunts and activities while putting both themselves and the general public at risk. Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton emphasized the importance of addressing this issue in the press release, stating, "Sideshows present many risks to community safety, endangering those who are involved and the public at large. The District Attorney’s Office will continue to be vigilant in prosecuting offenses stemming from sideshows under California law."
