Remains of Missing Elderly Man Discovered Near San Mateo After 4 Long Years

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 84-year-old Paul Farmer from Belmont, who went missing in August 2019, has finally been solved as his remains were discovered in a heavily forested area south of Highway 92 near Hillsdale in June 2023, according to CBS News San Francisco.

In the immediate aftermath of Farmer's disappearance, multiple agencies conducted extensive searches and investigated dozens of tips over the course of three years, as reported on KRON4 News. Farmer, who was said to be suffering from memory loss, had left his home on Molitor Road for an evening walk and did not return.

However, in a surprising twist, his identification card was found in a waterway in lower San Mateo in March 2023, which was subsequently reported to the Belmont Police Department in May, claims a San Mateo Daily Journal article. This discovery led investigators to the area where his remains were eventually found.

On June 25, 2023, searchers from Belmont police, San Mateo County Search and Rescue, and the Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit discovered human remains amidst dense brush in the forested area. The San Mateo County Coroner's Office later confirmed the remains to be those of Paul Farmer.

Though Farmer's remains have been found, the cause of his death remains unknown.
