Danny Lamar Miller-Kidd, a leader within a far-reaching drug trafficking organization based out of Baja California, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the distribution of methamphetamine and fentanyl throughout the United States, according to the United States Attorney's office in the Southern District of California. The sentencing comes as a significant blow to the organization, which had been responsible for the importation of multi-kilogram quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin, and their subsequent distribution across the US including California, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Illinois, and Tennessee.
Miller-Kidd had pleaded guilty in December 2022 to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. As part of his plea agreement, he admitted to his role as a multi-kilogram distributor of controlled substances for the Baja California-based drug trafficking organization, working with his co-conspirators to import drugs from Mexico with the intent to distribute throughout the United States. In September 2021, Miller-Kidd was stopped by law enforcement in Southern California, leading to the discovery of over 30 pounds of pure methamphetamine, 5,000 fentanyl pills, and multiple firearms inside his vehicle.
A San Diego Union-Tribune article published in November 2022 stated that "Operation Big Mouth," a federal task force investigation focused on the trafficking ring, had resulted in the seizure of more than 340 pounds of methamphetamine, 130 pounds of cocaine, 23 pounds of fentanyl, and 6 pounds of heroin, along with at least 13 firearms and $55,000 tied to the organization. Numerous members of the organization have been charged with conspiring to distribute controlled substances, money laundering, and other related offenses.
One such member, Angela Diane Guerrero, a San Diego mother of three who acted as a part of the organization, has been sentenced recently to nearly six years in prison. It is worth mentioning that the leader of the trafficking ring, identified by court records and courtroom testimony as Israel Guerrero, brother of Angela Guerrero, remains at large, with another high-ranking member also remaining unidentified and on the loose. The charges and sentencings are a result of a 14-count indictment handed down by a federal grand jury in May 2022, which charged 17 people in connection with the organized drug trafficking ring.
Elizabeth Allison Edelman, another defendant, was sentenced to 13 years in prison after she was found guilty of not only smuggling drugs across the border but also running her own distribution network in the San Francisco Bay Area. While Miller-Kidd's role in the organization may seem more clear than that of others, he still holds a significant place within the drug conspiracy. Court records show that after his initial arrest in August, he was released from custody but was re-arrested in October when Las Vegas police discovered a short-barreled rifle with no serial number, high-capacity magazines, body armor, and various gun parts typically used to make "ghost guns" inside his black Cadillac STS luxury sedan after he was stopped for a traffic violation.
