On Sunday, a road rage incident in San Mateo, California, took a terrifying turn when a father was struck by a car while attempting to protect his daughter from a hostile driver, according to the San Mateo PD.
The father, whose identity has not been disclosed, visited the San Mateo Police Department after being assaulted by a man wielding a knife before getting hit by the aggressor's car. The alarming events unfolded after the daughter called her father for help when she noticed she was being followed by a black colored car while driving.
During the call, the concerned father drove to his daughter's location and witnessed the threatening vehicle still pursuing her. The situation escalated while they were stopped at a red light at East Hillsdale Blvd and Curtiss St, where the father got out of his car to confront the driver of the black vehicle. The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old San Mateo resident Thomas German, brandished a knife, threatened the father, and subsequently rammed his car into the man, causing him to roll onto the hood and leaving his daughter in a state of shock.
As per the San Mateo PD's statement released on August 1, 2023, officers conducted an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of Thomas German. He was found in his car near the intersection of Lodi Ave and Norton St and was taken into custody without incident. The knife used in the crime was also recovered.
German has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and criminal threats. He is currently being held at San Mateo County Jail.
