San Diego Police are seeking the public's help in identifying two men wanted for sexually assaulting a young woman and attempting to rob the couple at Skyline Hills Park on August 10th.
According to the release, the 22-year-old woman and her 27-year-old boyfriend were enjoying their time at the park when two men approached them, simulating firearms in their waistbands and demanding money. The boyfriend, fearing for their safety, temporarily left the scene to get money, and it was during this brief window that the two assailants sexually assaulted the woman.
However, despite the terrifying nature of the crime, it is crucial to remember that our communities have overcome similar horrors in the past. History has shown us time and time again that when individuals band together to seek the truth and protect their fellow citizens, they create a space where justice can prevail and where communities can heal.
The suspects remain unidentified and their descriptions have been shared by the San Diego Police Department with hopes that someone might recognize them. Suspect #1 is described as a Black man, around 29 to 30 years old, with a thin build, standing 5'10" to 5'11" tall, weighing between 180-190 lbs., and sporting a goatee. He was seen wearing a white tank top and blue jeans. Suspect #2 is also described as a Black man, around 29 to 30 years old, standing 5'9" to 5'10" tall, weighing 200 pounds, with tattoos on his left arm and both wrists. He was wearing a white tank top, blue jeans, and blue shoes, which might have been Nike sneakers.
In these moments when others would have us succumb to fear, we must collectively pursue healing by refusing to cede our public spaces and shared sensibilities to such acts of brutality. The most profound rebuke of heinous acts, such as the one suffered by this young woman and her boyfriend, is a community refusing to be defeated—instead, coming together in solidarity and courage to bear witness and demand justice.
And so, investigators are urging members of the San Diego community, as well as anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any knowledge of the suspects, to come forward by calling the San Diego Police Department Sex Crimes Unit at (619) 531-2210 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
