In the dead of night, a devastating scene unfolded as an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet crashed just before midnight in a remote part of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, near San Diego. As reported by official MCAS Miramar sources, the aircraft was not part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing but was operating out of MCAS Miramar at the time of the accident.

The crash site, located east of the air station and the 15 Freeway, did not result in any damage to property on the ground. While information on the pilot and specifics of the incident remain scarce, search and rescue operations are actively underway, and a thorough investigation has begun.
As a testament to the aircraft's capabilities, the F/A-18 Hornet has long been known as the nation's first all-weather fighter and attack aircraft, serving as a workhorse of the Marine Corps tactical aviation. Back in 2008, an accident occurred in San Diego when an F/A-18D Hornet crashed into a neighborhood mere miles from the Miramar base. That resulted in the untimely deaths of four people.
