A man from Oakland must have thought he could execute the perfect heist, but little did he know that his brazen burglary attempt on a commercial business in Mountain View, California would not only be caught in the act, but also quickly lead to his arrest, according to Mountain View Police Department.

It all began when dispatchers received calls about an alarm going off around 4 am on August 7 at a business on the 1200 block of Terra Bella Avenue. Not only did the alarm company alert authorities, but they also provided live video footage of the burglar breaking into the building and stealing various items, including electronics, as detailed in MV Voice.

Mountain View patrol officers wasted no time in responding to the area, setting up a perimeter in collaboration with both the Los Altos Police Department and Santa Clara Police Department patrol officers. With a K9 unit and an accurate description of the man at large, they were hot on the trail of the suspect - and they didn't have to wait long.

As their search was ongoing, the man, later identified as 40-year-old Michael Belford, must have been unaware that he was walking straight into the crosshairs of the very officers looking for him, attempting to leave the business with stolen items still in hand. He was detained without incident and subsequently arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary.
