Update:

The SCPD Traffic Investigators conducted a follow-up investigation, which revealed that the pedestrian had crossed Monroe Street at Lawrence Expressway while the traffic signal was red.

Yesterday morning at around 1:27 a.m, a tragic accident took place when a vehicle collided with a pedestrian at the intersection of Lawrence Expressway and Monroe Street in Santa Clara, resulting in a fatality. The incident has left authorities seeking help to identify the deceased pedestrian, according to a report released by the Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD).

A witness called Santa Clara public safety dispatchers to report the accident, and the SCPD and Santa Clara fire personnel swiftly arrived at the scene, only to pronounce the pedestrian dead. Following a preliminary investigation, the SCPD found that the driver of a Honda SUV was driving northbound on Lawrence Expressway in the second lane when they struck the pedestrian, who was walking westbound on Monroe Street in the crosswalk.

The driver of the Honda SUV remained at the scene, fully cooperating with the authorities. Drugs and alcohol were not found to be a factor in this collision, the SCPD report says. The driver was identified as a 49-year-old male resident from Campbell, who was driving in the #3 lane from the right shoulder of traffic towards Monroe Street.

However, the identity of the deceased pedestrian remains a mystery. The SCPD described her as a Caucasian or Hispanic female adult, between 25-35 years of age, medium build and height, with brown hair, blue eyes, and several tattoos. Seeking assistance from the public, the SCPD encourages anyone who witnessed the accident, has video footage, or knows the identity of the pedestrian to share their information.
