A 47-year-old man lost his life on Friday after stumbling and falling into an underground parking garage in the East Village area of San Diego, only to be tragically run over by an oncoming vehicle, a 1999 Toyota Camry, whose driver was unable to see the fallen man, according to both 10News and Times of San Diego.
The accident occurred late on Friday at around 8:36 p.m. in the 1000 block of Park Boulevard, when the victim, reportedly homeless, inadvertently fell down the driveway into the garage, and a 38-year-old man driving into the parking facility at 1000 11th Avenue ran over him, leaving the man with severe internal injuries, sources say.
As per an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune, the victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead; police have confirmed that the driver, who had turned into the driveway unaware of the man's presence on the ground, was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.
Currently, the San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division is investigating the collision, and they urge anyone with information related to the accident to step forward and contact them at 858-495-7800 or via Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477, according to the Times of San Diego.
