Early Saturday morning, a horrific and tragic accident occurred in the Ridgeview/Webster neighborhood of San Diego when a 22-year-old woman lost her life in an attempt to aid her friend and her car that had crashed onto an electrical box. The harrowing incident casts light on the dangers of handling electrical equipment without proper knowledge and care.

The young woman was a passenger in a 2014 Kia Forte driven by her 31-year-old friend. According to FOX 5 San Diego, the driver inexplicably veered off the road around 2:30 a.m., driving over the sidewalk and colliding forcefully with an electrical box. The cause of the accident remains unknown.

With the vehicle resting on the smoldering box, both the driver and the victim exited the car. In a tragic attempt to help extricate the vehicle, the 22-year-old woman began to push the Kia away from the electrical box, only to be electrocuted in the process. She was promptly pronounced dead at the scene, as reported on Times of San Diego.

While the victim's identity has not yet been released, the driver of the car, who also suffered minor electrical burns, has been taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her injuries, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), do not appear to be life-threatening. SDPD's Traffic Division is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the accident and urges anyone with pertinent information to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
