Registration for the 128th Boston Marathon has officially opened as runners begin to claim their spots in the historic race. Scheduled for April 15, 2024, the marathon will feature 30,000 athletes and, for the first time, Bank of America as its presenting partner.

Although the registration window remains open until 5 p.m. on Friday, September 15, the marathon continues to use the same registration process as in recent years, enabling any athlete with a valid qualifying time to submit their applications during Registration Week. Registration is not on a first-come, first-served basis; rather, all applications will be accepted and treated in the same manner, according to WCVB report. The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) will subsequently verify and rank the submitted applications.

Additionally, the BAA announced the Official Charity Program Members, consisting of 160 organizations. These charities will raise funds for important causes leading up to the race. According to NBC Boston, athletes fundraising for the marathon in 2023 raised an impressive $40.3 million, setting yet another record.

Miceal Chamberlain, Bank of America President of Greater Boston, highlighted the significance of the marathon and the impact of its participants, stating, “Our engagement in sports and sporting events around the world, like the Boston Marathon, are one of the ways we drive Responsible Growth locally, nationally, and globally.”

Achieving a qualifying time does not guarantee a spot in the event. Instead, the fastest applicants in their age and gender group will be accepted. As WCVB reported, the entry fee for accepted qualifiers is $230 for United States residents and $235 for international residents.
