
Last week on September 22, Boston Police Department officers, assigned the Drug Control Units of District C-11 in Dorchester and District B-3 in Mattapan, embarked on an ongoing drug investigation, culminating in the execution of search warrants within the Dorchester community. According to the Boston Police Department's official statement, the search at 6 Darlington Street led to the discovery of various firearms, drugs, and a stolen BPD ballistic vest.
The ballistic vest was later confirmed to have been stolen from a Boston Police Department vehicle amidst the night of civil unrest on May 31, 2020. As a result of the discovery, detectives are seeking an additional charge against an already implicated 25-year-old male for receiving stolen property under $1,200.
During the search warrant execution, officers recovered 15 plastic bags containing what they suspect to be crack cocaine, a Colt revolver with six rounds in the magazine, a Remington .223 rifle with two 30-round magazines, an 8mm semi-automatic firearm, 24 live .45 caliber loose rounds of ammunition, 12 .40 caliber rounds of loose ammunition, multiple empty magazines, a ballistic vest, and a fully automatic Glock with an extended magazine according to Boston Police Department.
Reginald Mells, a 44-year-old man from Dorchester, was arrested during the search. Mells has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
Additionally, a 25-year-old male from Dorchester faces multiple charges. These charges include Unlawful Possession of a Machine Gun, Two Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Two Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Three Counts of Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of Body Armor, and Possession of a Rifle without a Serial Number. The young man implicated alongside Mells is part of the detectives' ongoing investigation into the stolen BPD ballistic vest.
