Cambridge Public Library to Launch Cultural Culinary SeriesSource: Google Street View

A monthly cooking series that will begin on Tuesday, September 19 is launching at the  Cambridge Public Library (CPL) . This series will provide community members the chance to not only learn the cooking basics and a variety of nutritious recipes but also have open discussions about food accessibility, sustainability, and diverse culinary traditions according to cambridgema.gov.

In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, the first Cambridge Cooks class will feature a live arepa-making demonstration by Tres Latinas, a local Venezuelan arepas truck run by Eli and Vero, two Caracas natives looking to share their passion for delicious food with the Cambridge community. The event's participants will get to sample the freshly made arepas and engage in a Q&A session with the chefs. Registration is required as highlighted in cambridgema.gov.

As part of this series, the library will invite local chefs and culinary experts to hold free cooking classes, using the Library's mobile kitchen cart to conduct demonstrations. The events will touch on themes such as healthy eating, reducing food waste, supporting local food sources, and cooking nourishing meals. The series will also educate participants about the safety and sustainability benefits of induction stoves.

According to Maria McCauley, director of the Cambridge Public Library, “Food plays such an important role in building community and learning across cultures. This series will address important topics like reducing food waste, eating locally, and cooking nourishing meals.”

In addition to the Latinx Heritage Month event, the Cambridge Cooks series will feature Chef Anthony Haley from the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts in two sessions, slated for Wednesday, October 4, and October 25. Patrons can find details about upcoming classes on the CPL's events calendar and keep up to date through the Library's social media and weekly newsletter.

Through these cooking classes, the Cambridge Public Library invests in educating its community about important global issues and social topics, including food sustainability, equity, and the power of food to bridge cultural divides. This emphasis on culinary diversity not only enhances patrons' cultural understanding but also contributes to the overall enrichment of the community.
