Earlier this morning, a tragic collision occurred near Ramona, leading to the temporary closure of State Route 67. According to Fox 5 San Diego, the incident took place around 3:40 a.m., resulting in at least one fatality and causing debris to scatter across the freeway lanes in both directions.
Details have emerged in a Times of San Diego article stating that the accident, which involved two sedans, may have been fueled by alcohol. The male driver of a Volkswagen reportedly crossed the center line, colliding with a female driving a Toyota. Firefighters managed to extricate the male victim before he was pronounced dead on the scene, while the female driver was hospitalized and her condition is currently unknown.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) noted the presence of open containers within the Volkswagen, raising suspicions about impaired driving.
Due to the severity of the accident, State Route 67, which is also known as Main Street, was shut down near Boortz Lane for nearly four hours, as reported by Caltrans via Twitter. Caltrans crews worked tirelessly to clear the debris and reopen the road in both directions by 8 a.m. on the same day, according to Fox 5 San Diego.
