Yesterday, a recently released inmate from the Elmwood Correctional Facility, was captured on security footage. Gabriel Andres-Ruiz was reportedly still wearing the distinct orange flip-flops issued at the jail when he attempted to break into two homes on Big Bend Drive and Grand Teton Drive.
According to a Milpitas Police Department (MPD) Facebook post, a resident on Big Bend Drive spotted the suspect trying to enter their home through a sliding glass door but managed to scare him away. As officers searched for Andres-Ruiz, another homeowner on Grand Teton Drive reported a broken window at their residence, however, the suspect did not manage to enter the home.
The MPD Facebook post states that as they recognized the peculiar footwear as Elmwood's inmate-issued attire, they swiftly reached out to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office – Elmwood Facility, who confirmed Gabriel Andres-Ruiz's identity. MPD urges anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to promptly contact them at 408-586-2400 or by dialing 911.
