Starting at 4 p.m. this evening, the Cotati Police Department, the Sonoma State University Police Department, and the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety will seek to test a variety of emergency evacuation sirens for approximately 15 minutes, ensuring that local residents are not only familiar with the sound but also capable of quickly responding if the time comes. For a brief moment, a chorus of high-low sirens will rise and fall, echoing throughout the streets—a reminder that, in the face of uncertainty, we must stand together and act with urgency to protect our communities, according to the City of Rohnert Park Police & Fire Facebook post.
The drill is a joint effort between municipalities and educational institutions.
In order to effectively simulate this preparedness exercise, sirens will be sounded throughout various streets in the area. To avoid undue alarm, safety personnel will follow closely behind, broadcasting the message "THIS IS A DRILL ONLY." There is no need for panic or fear, and residents should refrain from contacting emergency services during the drill's brief duration.
