After 18 years of serving contemporary macrobiotic cuisine, M Café, an establishment of Chaya Restaurant Group, is set to close its doors on Saturday, September 30. As Eater reports, the restaurant was unable to renegotiate new lease terms with its landlord.
In a heartfelt Instagram announcement, M Café expressed their emotions over the closure, "It is incredibly emotional and sad for us to have to make this announcement today, but M Café will officially be closing its doors, and the last day of operation will be Saturday, Sept. 30th, 2023."
M Café opened in 2005 with the mission to change the way people eat by providing healthy, great-tasting, and balanced whole food based on the foundations of macrobiotic cuisine. Macrobiotic diets focus on consuming whole grains, vegetables, plant-based proteins, and avoiding processed foods. The restaurant's closing marks the end of an era for macrobiotics enthusiasts in Los Angeles.
Grateful for the support they have received over the years, the restaurant added in their Instagram post, "We simply can’t put into words the love and gratitude we have for every customer who we were lucky enough to serve and get to know."
Nonetheless, the impact M Café has had on the local community will not be forgotten, as they expressed in their statement: "Someday, we hope to be able to re-open, and to serve all of you again."
Until the very end, M Café will continue to serve its patrons from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with an unwavering commitment to providing a memorable dining experience focused on the philosophy of balanced, whole food macrobiotic cuisine.
