Yesterday, the family of Joseph Sawyer and the Los Angeles Police Department requested the public's help to quickly locate the elderly 87-year-old man who was last seen, a week ago on September 19. Diagnosed with dementia, Mr. Sawyer's vulnerability can understandably evoke a compass of concern, according to LAPD.

The LAPD shared information on Mr. Sawyer's disappearance, describing him as an African American male with a bald head, brown eyes, wearing blue jeans, and missing teeth. 

Mr. Sawyer's case also emphasizes the importance of being prepared for situations involving vulnerable individuals. According to the Alzheimer's Association, six out of ten individuals with dementia are likely to wander. Having a plan in place to respond to wandering incidents can assist in promptly recovering those facing dementia who became lost, particularly among friends, family members, and community organizations.
