The results of a DUI operation that took place on September 8 were released, revealing the arrest of five drivers for driving under the influence. According to the Petaluma Police Department, The DUI Saturation Patrol, orchestrated as part of the ongoing Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Grant, deployed six officers specifically patrolling and looking for impaired drivers. The operation spanned from 4:00 PM to 3:00 AM, with an aim at increasing overall traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related collisions in the area.
As emphasized by the Petaluma Police Department, driving under the influence is entirely preventable. The department encourages those who visit and enjoy the city to plan ahead by designating a sober driver, utilizing ride-sharing services or calling a taxi, rather than risking the lives of others and facing harsh penalties for such behavior. In fact, first-time DUI offenders can face fines and penalties ranging from $13,500 to $20,000, along with a suspended license.
The funding for the DUI Saturation Patrol conducted by the Petaluma Police Department was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Petaluma Police Department encourages citizens who witness a suspected DUI driver to call 911, as early intervention can prevent potential accidents and save lives.
