A historic step was taken yesterday, as the City of Fairfield energized its first-ever pilot public EV charging site, signifying Fairfield's strides towards environmental sustainability and green transportation. According to an official announcement of the City of Fairfield, the Allan Witt Sports Complex parking lot will be host to the four 50kW DC fast chargers, boosting electric vehicle accessibility for residents and commuters alike.

The initiative is the fruit of a remarkable collaboration between the City of Fairfield, EVCS, the Solano Transportation Authority (STA), and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD). This concerted effort has secured the eventual installation of 31 DC Fast chargers and 27 Level 2 chargers across eight strategic locations in Fairfield. Three of these locations will be downtown, while two will be at park-and-rides, and the remaining three at community parks.

Powering these chargers will be 100% renewable energy, enabling EV users to enjoy rapid charging. Impressively, a mere 30-minute charging session will suffice to gain about 100 miles of range, promoting greener travel throughout the city. Six out of the eight selected locations will also showcase Level 2 chargers for longer charging sessions.

Mayor Catherine Moy expressed enthusiasm for the advancements, declaring, "I'm excited about the new fast chargers at Allan Witt Park. Our collaboration with the STA and our other valued partners is just the beginning of Fairfield's journey to electrify our city, moving us one step further in the EV game. It's great to see us all working together for a greener, more sustainable future."

Furthermore, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) has provided indispensable financial support for the deployment of chargers throughout the city.
