Scuba-Diving Couple Saves Baby Shark from Ocean Trash Entanglement Near Rhode IslandSource: Debra Dauphinais via AP

Earlier today, an ordinary scuba diving excursion turned into a rescue mission when a Connecticut couple came across a baby shark caught in a work glove at the bottom of the ocean off the coast of Rhode Island.

Deb and Steve Dauphinais, experienced divers from Glastonbury, Connecticut, were exploring the sand flats off Jamestown, Rhode Island, when they stumbled upon the 16-inch juvenile shark entangled in a work glove. Initially, Deb Dauphinais, a dive instructor with 30 years of experience, believed the shark to be dead. However, when the shark twitched, she enlisted her husband's help to free the creature. According to Deb, Steve managed to remove the glove, which seemed to be suctioned to the shark's head, and release the juvenile Dogfish shark without any sign of injury according to CBS News.

A few years ago, she recounted that she freed a black sea bass that had become hooked on a discarded fishing line according to WPRI. In Deb's view, there are "countless stories of underwater sea creatures being killed by underwater sea trash," and she considers it an ongoing issue that is near and dear to her heart as stated in Stamford Advocate.
