Earlier today, a high-speed pursuit came to an abrupt halt as a rolled-over vehicle burst into flames on the I-5 freeway in Commerce, according to CBS News Los Angeles. The chaotic event began when officers attempted to pull over a driver in a black Mercedes for an attempted assault on a deputy in east Los Angeles.
After a lengthy 45-minute chase, California Highway Patrol officers successfully deployed spike strips on the suspect's vehicle. This action ultimately led to the car flipping over, and catching fire shortly thereafter. The suspect's attempt to evade the law enforcement was finally put to an end on the northbound 5 Freeway, just south of the 710 Freeway in the Commerce area.
Miraculously, the driver managed to escape the burning wreckage and attempted to flee on foot. However, their efforts were in vain as they were apprehended, and taken into custody shortly after leaving the scene of the crash.
