An illegal homeless encampment near I-80 and Hamel Lane in Davis, California, was cleared. The camp, which housed over 12 residents, had attracted concerns from Solano and Yolo county residents for the past couple of years, according to the Solano County Sheriff's Office FB post.
The Solano County Homeless Intervention Team, with the assistance of Solano County Health and Social Services and Solano County Mental health, worked tirelessly to offer services to the residents. Their efforts lasted for nearly two years, offering a steadfast commitment to the well-being of those living there. Unfortunately, not all embraced the assistance offered. Among the camp's residents, three steadfastly refused the services from Solano County and vacated the property prior to the cleanup.
The cleanup operation began on Monday, August 28th, and continued through Friday, September 1st. According to the official statement, a shocking 510 cubic yards of garbage was removed from the area. More disturbingly, an additional 45 50-gallon bins of human biological contaminants were also removed posing a potent health hazard.
Various agencies, including Caltrans, UC Davis Police Department, Union Pacific Railroad, CHP - Solano, and the Solano County Health and Social Services, participated in the restoration effort.
