Last Friday, a DUI checkpoint was set up by the Novato Police Department, resulting in a total of 19 individuals facing charges. According to the Novato Police Department, the checkpoint, located at Novato Blvd. and Los Alondras Ct., led to two drivers being arrested for DUI offenses and one arrest for other criminal charges.

Out of the 1,206 vehicles screened, 16 drivers were cited – 15 for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, and one for knowingly allowing a suspended driver to operate a vehicle.

DUI checkpoints such as this one are typically established in locations with a history of impaired driving-related incidents. By placing these checkpoints strategically, law enforcement agencies aim to deter potential offenders and take suspected intoxicated drivers off the roads. Funding for the Novato DUI checkpoint was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
