Just after 5 AM on Saturday morning, an SRPD officer observed a driver on Fourth Street make an abrupt left turn onto the SMART railroad tracks. The driver then continued to make matters worse by accelerating further until the vehicle became stuck.… pic.twitter.com/mkCBVfzTeO
The driver, who showed signs of intoxication, was subsequently arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for driving under the influence of alcohol. A quick response prevented any delay to SMART service as the vehicle was removed from the tracks within an hour.
Through September, the San Rafael Police Department has partnered with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as part of the Summer Mobilization Campaign—an initiative aiming to locate and apprehend DUI drivers. The tweet posted by the San Rafael Police Department reinforces the need to designate a sober driver, use a ride share service, take a taxi, or utilize public transit to avoid endangering lives on the road.
