A 64-year-old bicyclist in Ventura County fell victim to a heinous hit-and-run crime, allegedly perpetrated by a 33-year-old Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) bus driver, yesterday.

According to a KTLA news report, the man sustained major injuries to his lower body after he was struck and run over by a bus with no respite from the very person responsible for the incident.

A witness promptly identified the vehicle as a VCTC bus and helped police track down and arrest the driver, Edgar Landeros. As KEYT news reported, Landeros was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run for his appalling actions.

The injured man, while lawfully riding his bicycle, was essentially abandoned by the very public servant expected to prioritize safety and care for their passengers and others on the road.

As mentioned in the KEYT news report, California Vehicle Code Section 21760 – commonly known as the Three Feet for Safety Act – mandates that drivers shall not pass a bicycle proceeding in the same direction on a highway at a distance of less than three feet.
