A United States Postal Service (USPS) employee named Edwin Cuadrado, Jr., has been arrested and charged with stabbing his supervisor at a postal facility in Carmel Mountain Ranch, San Diego last week, August 25th.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Cuadrado first engaged in both a verbal and physical altercation with his USPS supervisor at a nearby gas station late that afternoon. Shortly after this initial confrontation, Cuadrado drove his USPS vehicle to the main employee parking lot outside the USPS mail processing and distribution facility at 11251 Rancho Carmel Drive.
While in the parking lot, three different supervisory USPS employees approached Cuadrado to calmly discuss the altercation that had just taken place. Fueled by apparent rage, Cuadrado brandished a knife and stabbed one of the supervisors in the back of the head before fleeing the scene. The injured supervisor urgently received medical attention and was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Cuadrado remained elusive until his arrest this Wednesday. August 30th. He now faces multiple charges that include assault on a federal employee or officer and infliction of bodily injury with a maximum penalty of twenty years in prison and $250,000 fine. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for September 12 before U.S. Magistrate Judge William V. Gallo, who ordered Cuadrado to be held without bond after the government argued that he is a flight risk and danger to the community.
