In a recent announcement by the City of San Mateo Police, a DUI/DL Checkpoint carried out at S. Norfolk St./Shoreview Ave. has led to the arrest of two individuals for driving under the influence (DUI). This checkpoint came amidst a national discussion on the risks posed by impaired driving and the effectiveness of such enforcement tactics according to the San Mateo Police Department's FB post.
During the five-hour operation, officers screened 718 cars, with seven drivers ultimately receiving field sobriety tests. Two of those drivers were arrested for DUI, while another two were arrested for driving on suspended licenses. Furthermore, 13 drivers were cited for driving without a valid license, and one was cited for not having their child securely fastened in a car seat.
As the City of San Mateo Police stated, "driving is a huge responsibility" and both alcohol and drugs can significantly impair one's judgment and reaction time, potentially leading to deadly consequences.
